Dickie Wilson was born in the rural mountains of Southwest Virginia in a small town called Galax. In these Appalachian Mountains, his life, work, and passion have been focused on people through volunteer work and a career in rural health. The pursuit of service and love of people has taken him throughout Europe and Asia.
The love for literature and writing didn’t come until after his junior year in high school. As a child in elementary school he suffered from a reading disorder and was placed in a special reading class. Unfortunately this did not improve his reading skills, but, instead, isolated him from the rest of his class. It wasn’t until years later, a junior in high school, before he had an experience that would change the course of his life – he failed 11th grade English. This failure, instead of stopping him, propelled him past his physical limitations into a deep love of the written word and how it can be used as inspiration and entertainment to many people.
In 2013 Dickie’s love of books and writing inspired him to return to college and complete a BA in English/creative writing with a concentration on fiction. He’s now the author of many short stories and articles that reflect his love for Appalachian culture, historical fiction, and fable stylistic fiction. His passion is to craft stories that show hurt and pain in society, but give light to them through wisdom, redemption, and grace. Often his stories are crafted from personal experiences from world travel, work in the medical field, and unique stories found in the rural mountains of Southwest Virginia.
Dickie currently lives in Abingdon, VA with his wife and two daughters.
